SYNC’D stands on the shoulders of open data. Here’s where product information comes from, and the licenses it’s used under.

Open Food Facts

Product identification, ingredient lists, nutrition data, and many product photos come from Open Food Facts, the open, collaborative food products database.

• Database contents are licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).
• Product photos are © Open Food Facts contributors, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.
• Some product data and photos are cached on our servers to make repeat scans fast; the source and licenses above continue to apply to that cached data.

openFDA

Recall information comes from openFDA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s public API. openFDA does not endorse SYNC’D, and its data is provided as-is.

Consumer product recalls come from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. US branded-food facts come from USDA FoodData Central (public domain). Federal court dockets come from CourtListener, a project of the Free Law Project. Brand ownership comes from Wikidata (CC0). Crop pesticide lists come from the EWG Shopper’s Guide, built on the USDA Pesticide Data Program. None of these sources endorse SYNC’D.

When a barcode isn’t in those databases, product names and retailer photos come from UPCitemdb. When no product photo matches a suggested pick, the brand’s own website icon stands in.

AI analysis

Google Gemini reads label photos, explains ingredients, and searches the web for recalls, court cases, lab tests and ownership. A web finding is kept only when the page it cites supports it, and every finding links to that page. AI can be wrong; check the source when a finding matters to you. Trademarks

Brand names, product names, and product images belong to their respective owners and appear for identification only. SYNC’D is not affiliated with or endorsed by any brand it analyzes.
