Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 9, 2026
The short version: SYNC’D has no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking. We don’t sell your data. Your scan history and health preferences live on your device. The only personal information we hold on a server is your email — and only if you choose to sign in — and the recommendations you choose to share with the community.
What SYNC’D does
SYNC’D scans grocery and personal-care products and explains what’s inside them: an ingredient breakdown, a 0–100 score, marketing-label checks, recall history, and general wellness context. To do that, some product information has to travel to services that help us identify and analyze products. This policy explains exactly what moves, where, and why.
What stays on your device
- Your scan history — every product you’ve scanned and its results.
- Your health lens — the optional women’s/men’s wellness preference and life stage you pick. This never leaves your device.
- Your avoid-list, grocery list, cart, saved products, and streaks.
You can erase all of it at any time with Profile → Clear scan history or by deleting the app.
What we collect
- A device identifier. A random ID created when you install the app. It attributes community posts and likes without needing your name or an account. It isn’t your advertising ID and we don’t use it to track you across other apps or sites.
- Your email address — only if you sign in. Signing in (Apple, Google, or an email code) is optional and only needed for posting across devices. We use your email for sign-in and nothing else: no newsletters, no marketing.
- What you share with the community. If you post a recommendation, the product, your note, your display name, an optional store name, and an optional photo are visible to other users in the app.
- A shared product cache. When a product is analyzed, the resulting product information (not your identity) may be cached so the next person who scans it gets a faster answer.
- Scan events. When you scan a product, we log which product was scanned (barcode, name, score) together with the random device ID. This helps us understand which products people check and improve scoring. It’s never tied to your name or email and never shared or sold.
What we send to other services
These services process data on our behalf to make the app work. None of them receive your name or email from us.
- Supabase — our backend. Hosts sign-in, the community feed, the shared product cache, and shared product photos.
- Google Gemini API — our AI provider. Receives product ingredient lists, and label photos you capture, to produce the analysis. Requests go through our server, so your device talks to us, not directly to Google.
- Open Food Facts — a public, open product database. Receives the barcode you scanned to look up the product.
- openFDA — the U.S. FDA’s public recall database. Receives product or brand search terms to check recall history.
- Public scientific databases (PubChem, NIH DSLD) — receive ingredient names, never anything about you.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, and no advertising SDKs.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or renting data — to anyone, ever.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
Health information
The wellness lens (women’s/men’s, life stage) is a preference stored only on your device. The health context shown in results is general educational information about ingredients — it is not medical advice, and we don’t collect or store any health data about you on our servers.
Deleting your data
- Account: Profile → Delete account permanently removes your sign-in and email from our servers, right from the app.
- On-device data: Profile → Clear scan history, or delete the app.
- Community posts: email us and we’ll remove them.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal information we hold. Email us and we’ll honor it — we extend these rights to everyone, regardless of location.
Children
SYNC’D is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Continued use of the app after a change means the updated policy applies.
